Shopify Draft Order Action – Customer Mapping and Discount Field Issues
Status: Open · Asked by Kalaachar on · 0 views
Hello Pabbly Support Team,
I am using Pabbly Connect to automatically create Shopify records whenever a sale is made through a third-party card reader at my pop-up events.
Previously, I was manually entering every event sale into Shopify, including customer details, after each pop-up event. While this worked, it was very time-consuming. The main reason I set up this automation was to reduce manual work and ensure sales are recorded in Shopify efficiently and consistently.
Initially, I used the Shopify "Create Order" action. However, I discovered that orders created through a third-party app cannot be edited in Shopify Admin, whereas orders created directly within Shopify can be edited.
As a workaround, I switched to the Shopify "Create Draft Order" action because draft orders can be edited before completion. However, I have run into two issues:
- I do not see any field within the Draft Order action that allows me to link an existing Shopify customer profile (Customer ID or Customer Email) to the draft order.
- While testing the Draft Order action, I encountered an issue with the discount fields. None of the fields appear to be marked as required, but the workflow returns an error related to discounts. The Discount Type field requires me to choose either "Fixed Amount" or "Percentage," with no option for "None" or "Not Applicable." Since no discount was being applied, I selected "Fixed Amount" and entered a value of 0, but the test still failed with a discount-related error.
Could you please help clarify the following:
- Is it currently possible to associate an existing Shopify customer with a Draft Order created through Pabbly Connect?
- If yes, which field should be used to map the customer information?
- If not, is there a workaround using a Custom API Request or another Shopify action?
- What is the correct configuration for the discount fields when no discount should be applied?
- Is either of the above behavior a limitation of the current Shopify integration, or am I missing a configuration step?
My goal is to automatically create editable Draft Orders while keeping them linked to the correct Shopify customer profile for future marketing, customer history, and reporting purposes.
Thank you for your assistance. I would appreciate any guidance or recommended workaround.
Hey @Kalaachar,
To answer your questions:
Currently, the native Shopify V2 - Create Draft Order action does not support associating an existing customer with the draft order, even though Shopify's API supports passing a Customer ID. We have escalated this enhancement request to our team so they can consider adding a Customer ID field to the action. In the meantime, you may use the Custom API Request action within Shopify V2 as a workaround.
Regarding the discount fields, we have also escalated this feedback to our team so the action help text and field requirements can be made clearer. For now, if no discount is being applied, please try leaving the discount-related fields empty wherever possible or set the discount value to 0, and then test the action.
Please let us know if that helps. We appreciate your patience, and we will update you as soon as we receive any information from our team regarding these improvements.
Hey @Kalaachar,
Thank you for reaching out to us, and we appreciate your patience.
We're happy to let you know that our team has introduced a new Shopify action that now supports Customer ID while creating draft orders.
Please try using the Create Draft Order (New) action in your workflow and test it from your end. This action should allow you to associate the draft order with an existing Shopify customer profile.
Kindly give it a try and let us know how it goes. We'll be happy to assist further if you encounter any issues.
